Your vet will likely tell you that cat vaccines are essential to protect your cat from a deadly disease. Pressure and emotional blackmail are used will scant regard to the truth. Whether individual vets believe this or not is questionable, but they do come under enormous pressure from both the pharmaceutical industries as well as from their professional associations.
Never underestimate the power that pharmaceutical companies carry. Their pockets run deep and they have infiltrated just about every government, every medical school and every medical association in the world. Not to mention mainstream media. They want to increase profits at any cost and they do this shamelessly. The truth is not an area they want to curry favour with as it decimates sales.
The vets will also tell you that vaccines for cats are completely safe with adverse reactions rare. Again, whether they are simply repeating what they have been told, or whether they really believe this, is very individual. What I do feel is that they, the experienced vets, must have seen hundreds, if not thousands, of cats (and other animals) who had a problem immediately following a vaccine.
If they are the intelligent people they presumably are, then they should be able to make a connection. Still, many are in denial. Perhaps they focus on the not inconsiderable profit their practices earn from annual vaccines from each animal in their care.
The fact is that vaccine injury is a very real problem in everyone who receives them and they are not rare at all. In a cat, who is by nature good at hiding their emotions, and in a human, who it must be said is a long way from understanding the animal world, a reaction to a vaccine can so easily be overlooked.
How does a cat tell you they have a headache, a mild fever, a neurological disorder? Mild symptoms will never be seen or reported, so the statistics on adverse reactions to cat vaccination will be seriously under-estimated. Even a severe reaction, enough to consult the vet, is likely to be played down and may never get reported. Another problem is that any reaction to a vaccine after a few days is not considered to be from the vaccine. So that will never be reported.
Clearly, the statistics on vaccine damage to cats, or to any animal, are going to be very inaccurate.
Are cat vaccines necessary to prevent your cat from getting a serious disease? My answer asks that you consider the evolution of cats to the present day. Cats are very good survivors. They can go feral quite easily, even in highly inhospitable areas, such as slums in cities. They are adaptable and are able to retain their population.
To me, this indicates that they are very good at looking after themselves, at preserving their health when free to do so. After all, they have managed to evolve to the present day exceedingly well without the so called necessity of cats vaccines.
The key, I suggest, lies in the comment ‘when free to do so”.
When a cat is able to choose their own diet, their health benefits enormously. The right diet is key to immunity. So the right diet, the species-specific diet prevents disease.
What is the typical diet of most domestic cats? Grain, tapioca (typical in grain-free cat food), some vegetable matter (none of which can be well tolerated by cats) maybe a bit of slaughter house waste if they are lucky, lots of chemical dyes, appetite stimulants and preservatives (cats are particularly sensitive to chemicals).
Don’t be fooled by labels. I suggest there are no laws in any country that enforce the honest ingredient labelling in pet food. No-one, it seems, cares about animals.
Put the wrong fuel in your car and it doesn’t work. Feed the wrong food to your cat and their health is poor.
So, most domestic cats fed commercial cat food are more prone to disease than their wild cousins. But are vaccines for cats going to improve the odds? To answer that question, you need to look at the ingredients of vaccines.
Depending on the vaccine, as well as the manufacturer, most vaccines contain mercury, aluminium, formaldehyde, cross-species tissue, to name just a few of the ingredients. Depending upon your view of these ingredients will depend upon your ability to decide whether their use is beneficial or harmful.
It is well known, and well documented, that mercury, aluminium and formaldehyde, when injected directly into the body, causes a major immune reaction, with neurological damage.
Certainly many cats do manage to survive even after years of vaccinations. However, their immune response is usually poor, with a poor reaction to any passing viral or bacterial pathogen. They become dependent on veterinary care to keep them alive.
The life expectancy of cats has also dropped dramatically in the decades since annual vaccination became common. 30 years of age was not an unusual life for a domestic cat. Most can’t get much past 10 years, now.
Titre tests are now well recognised in the better veterinary clinics. A titre test is a blood test for antibodies. If antibodies are present, a vaccine is not required. Yet, many vets ignore this.
One of the major problems with vaccinations for cats is the common practice of multiple diseases covered in one vaccine (as in F3 or F5). As is the common procedure of giving the vaccine at the same time as an operation, such as spaying. Both of these issues overload the immune system badly. If you must, do one at a time, with plenty of time in between for the cat to recover, such as a month or more.
Another seriously abused veterinary practice, sadly quite common, is the insistence of administering a vaccine when your cat is admitted for an emergency. Yet the instructions for cats vaccination clearly states to do so only ‘when healthy’. How can any clear thinking vet imagine that a struggling immune system can get any benefit from a vaccine? Even if they believe in vaccines, they are for long term benefit, not for short term acute emergencies.
Nature is already perfect. This is how each species managed to survive to the present day, without any medical help. I suggest cat vaccines are not only unnecessary, they are seriously harmful – to your cat. The benefits of vaccination for cats rests only on the profit of your vet and the pharmaceutical industry.
The responsibility and the health care of your cat rests with you. Research, discover and learn. YOU make the choices, not your vet. And remember, anyone who needs to bully or to use emotional blackmail to convince you to do as they ask are hiding something, probably the truth.
What if your cat has already suffered a vaccine injury? What if you have to give a mandatory vaccine? A professional homeopath can help in both these situations.
