Cat flu is a common health problem. As in anyone, it’s a sign that the immune system is compromised. A healthy cat has a strong immunity which is very capable of preventing common ailments such as cat flu.
It’s import to appreciate this fact, because when it is fully understood, then you will go out of your way to improve your cat’s immune system, avoiding any which may harm it. This is a vast improvement on focusing on specific ailments, such as cat flu.
Nature had already perfected a cat’s immune system long before man came along and started to meddle with things. If this hadn’t happened, cats would have died out long ago.
The most important things that man has tampered with, to the detriment of domestic cats health, are diet, health care, breeding and life style.
The common diet of most cats is commercial cat food. This is, almost exclusively, poor in quality, uses the wrong type of food, has the wrong proportions, is nutrient poor and is toxic. It’s a testament to the cats ability to adapt and survive that they exist on this at all.
But the majority don’t exist well. Ailment after ailment occurs, without anyone ever making a connection to the diet.
Mainstream health care, for both animals and people, is based on the premise that the body is not created perfectly. Again, if this were true, then there would be no life on Earth. Everybody would have died out long ago.
The fact is that every species, every individual is made perfectly. Every single life form has an incredible ability to cure themselves. Of anything and everything. However, there are certain areas that do cause problems, preventing this natural ability.
All we have to do, as carers, is to remove these problems and give the cat time and space to recover.
Sadly, the breeding of pedigree cats has not been in their best interest. Physical traits are the guiding leads, rather than healthy individuals. Inbreeding and unnatural selective breeding has undoubtedly taken its toll on the health of pedigree cats. Perhaps the Persian cat has the most compromised health, so far removed from its natural ancestors.
The common lifestyle of domestic cats is often inhibiting to their natural ability to cure themselves. Kept inside permanently denies them access to natural sunlight, to a range of medicinal plants and to the energy of Nature underfoot.
These four aspects can all add up to your cat having a less than healthy immune system.
So what can you do? How can you prevent cat flu and the whole host of other ailments cats get, common or otherwise?
First, made radical changes.
- Feed a diet as natural and as nutrient rich as is possible.
- Use natural health care, especially homeopathy, rather than mainstream health care. Homeopathy works in accordance with the body’s best effort, supporting and removing genetic predispositions.
- Don’t contribute to the unnatural breeding of pedigree cats. Rescue a moggy, who will probably be far more healthy and have greater intelligence.
- Keeping safety in mind, make sure your cat has at least some access to the sun, a range of healthy, chemical free plants and the earth.
If you have to get veterinary medication for your cat, ensure only one medication is used at any one time. Don’t allow your vet to worm, sterilise, vaccinate and de-flea your cat all at the same time, as is so common. It overloads their immune system badly, and is often the cause of ailments such as cat flu.
