Feline Immunodeficiency and How to Reverse It

Feline immunodeficiency is a grand name for saying your cat’s immune system is not working as it should; that your cat is now susceptible to any and every disease and pathogen (virus, bacteria, fungus, etc) that is around.

Disease is not something that happens without reason or randomly. The air your cat breathes is laden with pathogens. Your cat’s body is full of flora and fauna, without which life would not be possible.

The reason a cat does not succumb to diseases and pathogens, or when they are healthy, is because they have a healthy and robust immune system. There is nothing more important to your cat than a healthy immune system.

This intangible, but vital, aspect of your cat is often overlooked as attention is focused on the disease itself. Yet the disease is the effect of the deeper problem. To explain this, I like to use an analogy.

Suppose your car engine suddenly stops. It grinds to a halt and no amount of trying will get the engine started again. Any good mechanic who examines the cause of the problem will first check that the engine had everything it needed to operate efficiently – such as oil or fuel. An engine will not run without oil or fuel. They are the ‘nutrients’, if you like, of an engine.

It seems car mechanics are far more able at sussing out the cause of a problem (at least in a car that doesn’t work), than a veterinarian is at sussing out the problem your cat has.

All diseases in cats, that is any disease or ill health, mean that your cats immune system is badly compromised. Or to term it medically, your cat has feline immunodeficiency.

There are a few causes of disease in anyone, but the vast majority is caused, or exacerbated, by the wrong diet. And the wrong diet is at epidemic proportions throughout the world, in all species that depend on man for their food.

In this day of materialism and corporate domination, nothing is more important than the mighty dollar. Everything is measured by how much you make and what you spend it on. Almost every business is anxious to make as much money as possible, with little or no regard for ethics, for the end consumer or for the lives of those that supplied the ‘raw material’.

Pet food manufacturers are simply corporations who are engaged in this way of business. The role of their CEO is to make the company as profitable as possible. The health of your cat is immaterial to them. Their role is to keep you in ignorant bliss, as long as you continue to buy their product.

They are also long term players. They infiltrate the veterinary schools, teaching the students their way of thinking, knowing full well they will be handsomely rewarded in the whole time the qualified students practice. You only have to look at the floor-to-ceiling commercial pet foods stacked at every veterinary clinic to appreciate this.

Yet this poor quality ‘food’, high in carbohydrates (which is detrimental to cats), kept on the shelf indefinitely (by preservatives despite the assurances otherwise), cooked until nothing remotely resembling nutrition is left, is touted as healthy, natural and scientific.

By who’s yardstick?

The medical profession as a whole are woefully ignorant about nutrition. Perhaps this is done on purpose because when healthy food is eaten, few diseases occur. Healthy eating is very bad for veterinary repeat business.

The single most important thing you can do for your cat, to prevent feline immunodeficiency, is to feed them according to their evolution. This almost too easy answer is overlooked by many who seek the complications of ‘advanced’ ‘scientific’ veterinary medicine.

It doesn’t matter how clever, or not, veterinary medicine is. If you are not feeding your cat the right food, there is little hope for anything other than expensive drugs and a painful and untimely death.
