Keeping Your Cat's Kidneys Healthy

By Madeleine Innocent

Keeping your cat's kidneys healthy naturally is easy when you know how. Problems don't have to be inevitable.

Cats suffer greatly from kidney disease. They do have a weak link with their kidneys. But the amount seen in domestic cats is NOT natural. This means it is man-made; we cause it. If we cause it, we can cure it, we can prevent it, we can heal it.

Cats Weak Link

Cats naturally suffer from kidney disease for various reasons. Being loners, they alone are responsible for their food and their well being. There is no pack to rely on or fall back on (in all cats except the lions).

To achieve this it means they need super alert senses, not only to detect their prey, but also to detect a predator. The big cats, being the top predators themselves, generally don’t have to worry about predators, but the smaller cats, such our domestic cats, do.

Being super alert to both prey and being preyed on relies on the adrenals (which are located above the kidneys).

The kidneys are the seat of fear. Natural fear keeps the cats alert to dangers.

In a natural environment, all is well.

In an unnatural environment, such as in domestication, things get complicated.

Symptoms of Kidney Problems in Cats

Common symptoms of kidney issues in cats include:

  • excessive drinking
  • excessive urination
  • clear coloured urine

Excessive drinking can also be seen in all cats fed dry food.

These early signs can lead to any renal problem, from painful urination, to UTIs, to kidney stones, to kidney cancer, to kidney failure.

Eventually there will be weight loss, a gaunt appearance, chronic dehydration and a dull coat despite a good appetite.

Keeping your cat's kidneys healthy means preventing this unhappy picture, allowing them to lead long and healthy lives.

Causes of Kidney

Going back to the idea that if we humans cause a problem, we can also heal it.

There are a couple of areas that have had a major impact on cats lives and health:

  • diet
  • health care

Commercial cat food across the board is nutrient bankrupt, uses the waste from human food, topped up with cheap plant foods and laced with chemicals to preserve, in an attempt to address the balance of nutrition.

No cat can be healthy on that food. Cats are carnivores. Carnivores need very fresh raw meat and bones.

Being such sensitive animals, cats are particularly sensitive to chemicals. They cause all manner of destruction.

Veterinary Treatment

After blood tests, vets will prescribe drugs and a 'renal' diet.

The kidneys are responsible for the elimination of metabolic waste and various toxins.

Adding in extra chemicals from the drugs and from the renal diet only adds to the overwhelming burden your cat, and particularly their kidneys, already has.

Keeping Your Cat's Kidneys Healthy Naturally

There are two areas that go a long way, and often all the way, in keeping your cat's kidneys healthy naturally. One only you can do. One needs the services of a practitioner.

First is to feed your cat a species specific diet. That's your job. No-on else can do that. See link below.

Second is to avoid chemical drugs. The holistic health care of homeopathy addresses all problems without toxins. It works by supporting and healing your cat's immune system. And that keeps them healthy.
