You may be tempted to try treating your cat yourself. The reasoning often is because you may have little faith in veterinarians. This is becoming increasingly common, which is largely unsurprising when you consider who trains them. While the vets themselves may be very caring and lovely people, they have been trained by corporations who only have a profit motive.
This means the vets themselves have become glorified drug dealers and pet food dealers. There is no room for anything alternative. No room for thinking for themselves. No room for taking the full case history to discover causes and/or sensitivities. No room for thinking outside the square.
Obviously there are variations between the vets, and some leave the medical side altogether and focus solely on an holistic approach. But at a huge income loss. Which tends to show just how profitable veterinary medicine is (that should alarm you). So most stay.
Understandably, this leaves many frustrated. You may have discovered the harm drugs do especially to our highly sensitive cats. You may have found the treatment didn’t touch the issue at hand and even made your cat worse.
So you start looking for things to do yourself. You start treating your cat yourself.
However, there are problems with this approach.
The first hazard often comes from accepting the vets diagnosis and looking for alternative solutions in the hope of better results. The problem with this approach is that the diagnosis itself may be wrong. Medical tests are unreliable, especially blood work. It’s a snapshot of the moment, and not a very accurate one. The cat is also likely to be highly stressed at the time, creating an issue that disappears when back home.
Another hazard is that you may not know what treatments are harmful to cats. Vets don’t know this either. A very common one is that any plant based treatment (natural supplements, herbs, plant based nutritional oils, essential oils, etc) are harmful to cats. They can’t cope with the alkaloids, etc in plants as they have no need, being carnivores.
A common hazard using homeopathic complexes for animals is that one of the remedies in the complex may not suit your cat. In humans, it’s easy to decide not to take something based on our feelings. But cats are far more sensitive than we are and can’t always make their feelings felt to us, for the most part. Certainly not the subtle feelings.
Another hazard is how often should you dose your cat and how long should the treatment last? How would you know? These are grey areas, because everyone is an individual and needs individualised treatment. You need guidance from someone who knows what to do.
A horror story from a recent consultation where the poor cat was given multiple supplements (all plant based) and multiple homeopathic complexes based on guesses on what the problem was. Unsurprisingly, the cat developed a problem. The vet didn’t ask about that. And had no answers, so suggested euthanasia.
Sadly, this is really common; kill what you don’t know how to treat.
Before considering ANY treatment, you should ALWAYS consider the possible causes. Once you’ve done that, you may not need ANY treatment.
Diet is the biggest cause of health issues in everyone. If you feed your cat commercial cat food, it’s always high in plant based food, the ingredients are invariably low quality, the cooking causes problems and they are laced with chemicals. All of which is guaranteed to cause your cat ongoing illnesses.
Once you have converted your cat to a high quality, raw meat and bones diet (which can be easy), their health improves quickly. That may be all you have to do to restore their health. And that is the one thing ONLY you can do. It may take time. It may take effort. Learning new things often does.
However, knowledge is power.
Even if the new diet doesn’t completely heal the issue at hand, it will invariably improve it considerably. Then you can decide what to do next.
For any chronic condition, it’s always best to seek out the services of a homeopathic practitioner. You’ll be guided and in the process, you’ll learn a lot.
Then, you can learn to treat your cat yourself, safely, for acute conditions, using homeopathy. But you need to take a course first. A course will empower you with knowledge of what to look for. Then you can use single remedies, understanding what you’re doing, rather than just taking a shot in the dark.
