With the clamour of the internet, it can be hard to sift out what is true and what is fabricated. By understanding cats, who they are, what they need, where they come from, you can easily detect the truth and the fabricated.

And, if you are the proud carer of a cat or three, then you need this information for two reasons:

• to keep your cat healthy
• to keep your hard earned cash where it belongs – with you

For example, it's futile getting expensive treatment when the diet is wrong. 

One of THE most important aspects of anyone’s health is their diet. Eat the wrong diet, the inappropriate one for the species, and no amount of wonderful health care will stop the deterioration of health. It may start off with small issues such as sneezing, itching or an eye discharge. However, that is just the start of a slippery slope.

Almost guaranteed, worse will follow. In cats, that will be renal (kidney issues), stomatitis (mouth problems with an inability to eat), with heart and liver problems becoming ever more common. More and more ‘rare’ diseases are appearing.

Veterinary tests and drugs are unlikely to help restore your cat’s health. In fact, they simply add to the problem.

Few animal practitioners, either of the veterinary kind or the holistic kind, seem to have grasped who cats are or what they need. So when you DO appreciate it, you are likely to be miles ahead of your preferred animal practitioner/vet.

Cats are carnivores.

That says it all, really.

Carnivores need animal tissue to survive. They don’t just need it, they need ONLY animal tissue. The animal tissue consists of quality muscle meat, organ meat and bones. All raw.

That’s all a cat needs to thrive. And thrive very well. Into old age. Without any health issues.

Understanding cats means you have to understand who they are with regards to their hunting abilities.

For a start, all cats, of any size, all except the lions, are lone hunters. This means they alone are responsible for their food. 

So they have to be exceptional hunters. They have to be silent, stealthy, light on their feet, able to leap into action in a nanosecond, as well as have the ability to hold and kill their prey quickly.

This means they have to have a light body weight. To achieve this, they have lightened their bones and also their organs. The liver is one of the biggest, and heaviest, organs of the body as it has so much to deal with. One of its roles is to neutralise all the mild poisons found in plants. These are to protect the plants from being wiped out. As cats aren’t plant eaters (except by choice and for medicinal reasons), they don’t need this ability.

So this part of the liver, that is present in plant eaters, is not present in cats. This makes all food from plants indigestible for cats at the least, and downright poisonous at worst.

Yet in every commercial cat food, the ingredients list plant based food.

So every mouthful you feed your cat, of any commercial cat food, you are making them sick. And sicker.

Fermented cat food is plant based.

Even many raw cat food brands contain plant based food – vegetables and fruit.

Many supplements for cats are plant based.

Every herbal medicine for cats is herb, or plant, based. 

There maybe at least four reasons:

• sadly, people consider our four legged friends inferior to us, so don’t make much effort
• people tend to believe in so called ‘experts’ rather than relying on their own wisdom or that of the cat
• the pet food industry is just that, an industry – whose only motive is to make money
• the medical/veterinary industry (another one), which has so infiltrated everyone’s consciousness, is largely funded by the pharmaceutical industry (THE extremely profitable industry)
  
  

So it comes down to money.

Yet, if you switch your cat’s diet (not always an easy process, but it can be) to, broadly speaking, the one they evolved on, the one wild cats still eat, not only will your cat’s health improve, you’ll save a ton of cash.
