Gum disease in cats is soaring. And it isn’t surprising when you consider what most domestic cats eat. And what vets do to cats in the interest of ‘prevention’ and solutions. Most of it belongs back in the dark ages.

What Is Gum Disease

Gum disease in cats, or in anyone, is inflammation. Chronic inflammation. Gingivitis. Stomatitis. Inflammation creates pain, swelling, low energy, sometimes fever. When it’s in the mouth, eating becomes painful, so tends to be avoided, leading not only to starvation, but in cats, to dehydration as well; cats generally rely on the moisture of their food for their liquid needs, unlike us. (Which is one reason why dry food is so damaging to cats.)

The causes of inflammation is anything that destroys the innate ability of the immune system. Some of the main triggers include:

  • unsuitable food for the species
  • immune damaging veterinary drugs (they all are)
  • unhappy lifestyle (too crowded, poor hygiene, lack of love, no bolt hole to hide in, stress, lack of contact with the healing powers of the sun and contact with the Earth, to mention just a few)

The food is perhaps the main trigger, by virtue of its daily consumption. Cats are obligate carnivores. In other words, they cannot survive on anything other than meat and bones. They are hunters.

Yet when you read the ingredients in commercial cat food, they all contain plant based food, usually in large quantities.

Cats don’t have the complex livers needed to process the mild poisons found in plants, that omnivores and herbivores have. So the poisons build up over time. Inevitably, that leads to health issues. But not immediately.

Cats are stoic beings. They don’t tend to show problems until they are well advanced. By the time they start showing symptoms, such as refusing food, the gum disease can be well advanced.

In addition to the high plant content in commercial cat food is the very poor quality animal protein – rejects from the more lucrative human market, where storage and hygiene are not considered important.. Yet cats need high quality animal protein. They also need very fresh food as they aren’t scavengers as dogs are.

The manufacturers realise the food is very poor quality so add in synthetic supplements (the cheap ones) in an effort to look healthier. The problem with synthetic supplements is that at best they pass straight through and at worst, they hang up in parts of the body, causing mischief. Synthetic supplements are made from petro chemicals and are indigestible.

Cats, beings the highly sensitive beings they are, are more affected by this than most humans.

With such poor nutrition, is it any wonder that the health of cats suffer? Gum disease in cats is just the beginning, followed by organ failure and cancers. Yet the majority of vets have no idea of the importance of diet and generally encourage sales of the poor quality commercial cat food. The packets look attractive, with clever marketing words and images, but the contents are still damaging to the health of cats.

So you take your cat to a vet and along come the immune damaging antibiotics and steroids. Have you ever come away from a vet’s consultation without antibiotics and steroids?

No mention of the causative factor – the diet.

Veterinary drugs may appear to work in the short run. But they make the whole situation much worse as they prevent the cats immune system from doing its job of healing. It leads to more chronic disease. The cause is never considered. Vets aren’t trained to consider causes. They are trained to match a drug to the symptoms, with no idea of cause.

Stressful or unhappy lifestyles adversely affect us all, but perhaps have a heightened effect on cats as they are such sensitive beings. Stress can have a deep and lasting effect on their lives. Only the most sensitive people will see that. Most don’t. Cats like peace and quiet. They dislike noise and unusual activity. And if they have nowhere to escape from this, the stress can lead to pathology.

Preventing Gum Disease In Cats Can Also Be Healing

The first thing to address is the diet. Learn how to feed you cat according to their wildly healthy ancestors. This is something only you can do. Put your energy and intent into this.

Use a natural healing method such as homeopathy for all your cats health needs. Homeopathy supports a healthy immune system.

Ensure your cat has the peace and quiet they need, or at the very least, a safe bolt hole they can escape to. Make sure they’re not stressed. Make sure they have access to the medicinal plants they use, such as grass. Access to the healing rays of the sun and the earth beneath their feet can do wonders for restoration of health. Do what you can in limited environments.

And above all, love them. Love is the ingredient that make life worth living, that supports us all and gives us the courage to get through difficult periods. Just to KNOW we’re loved and cherished is enough, without any display.

Preventing gum disease in cats may be just the beginning of a healthier and happier cat

Hi, my cat is badly suffering from the mouth infection. We have been treating him since pas 10 months but no use. You mentioned raw diet but did not elaborate on it. I want to know what kind of raw diet can be given to my cat and how homeopathic medicines can help him live better.

Hi Shabina, you’ll find all the info about a raw diet in my ebook which is found here – https://naturalcathealth.com/help-options. Because that is a serious issue and takes time to resolve, depending on how bad it is, you may need a consultation, details also found on that page.
